Chungking Mansions (重慶大廈) is a 17-story commercial and residential building in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui in Hong Kong. Many business owners here are South Asians who have been in Hong Kong for generations, reflecting the historical presence of South Asians in HK since the 19th century (when both HK and India/Pakistan were British). Others are traders, laborers, asylum seekers, and temporary workers on short-term visas. In Chungking Mansions, many speak Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, or Tamil, buy South Asian food and ingredients, and watch Indian, Pakistani, or Nepali TV. Chungking Mansions remains a platform for the suitcase entrepreneur; nurturing the small-time players of transnationalism.
A scene in our VR film takes place in Chungking Mansions – thanks to the fantastic
